Pineau des Charentes
We have three different Pineaus available.
Red and white Pineau des Charentes
Harvesting grapes for our Pineau des Charentes requires our utmost attention. When the grapes have reached a good level of ripeness, we harvest them for the next stage. When the harvest is over, we take the grape juice which is then transformed into a “Rassis” Cognac. Once the mixture has been blended well, it is placed into used Limousin oak barrels that have previously aged Cognac over a number of years.
Grape variety: For White Pineau, 50% Colombard 50% Ugni Blanc
For Red Pineau or Rosé, 50% Merlot 50% Cabernet Sauvignon
Tasting Notes:
White:
Eye: Slightly amber.
Nose: Grapefruit nose with notes of vanilla.
Palate: Nutty notes on the palate, great amplitude where aromas of stone fruits and honey develop.
Red:
Eye: Ruby.
Nose: Black cherry and blackcurrant nose with a hint of rose.
Palate: Powerful with notes of raspberry and cherry. The white Pineau des Charentes has a greater aging ability than the red Pineau Rouges, and reaches over 30 years in age. Our white Pineau ages well like a Sauternes wine; due to their balance in acidity, alcohol and sugar.
For the red Pineau, we wanted to preserve its fresh and fruity character, so it isn’t aged for quite as long.
“Very Old” Pineau des Charentes: “CUVEE YANN”
Harvesting grapes for our Pineau des Charentes requires our utmost attention. When the grapes have reached a good level of ripeness, we harvest them for the next stage. When the harvest is over, we take the grape juice which is then transformed into a “Rassis” Cognac. Once the mixture has been blended well, it is placed into used Limousin oak barrels that have previously aged Cognac over a number of years. Our “Cuvée Yann” has been aged for more than 18 years in oak casks.
Grape variety: 50% Colombard 50% Ugni Blanc
Tasting Notes
Eye: Amber white color.
Nose: Vanilla notes alongside a dominance of rancio and prune.
Palate: Great amplitude where aromas of stone fruit and honey develop, alongside orange liqueur. Great aromatic persistence.
Cuvée Yann is a very old Pineau des Charentes whose woody scents give way to rancio and smoky notes. It comes from our oldest stocks of Pineau des Charentes.
Our Pineaus are available to buy in delicatessens (i.e. Le Bon Marché in Paris), in certain tasting rooms (i.e. Le Fouquet’s in Paris) and of course directly from the property.
